A security cabin looks like the simplest thing a portable cabin manufacturer makes. It is also the one we see replaced soonest — usually because the size was wrong, the guard could not see the gate properly, or it became unusable in summer. Six things decide whether it lasts.

1. Get the size right for how it will be used
The question is not “how small can it be” — it is “will one guard sit here for a twelve-hour shift, or will two overlap at shift change, and is there a register, a phone charger and a monitor in here?”
| Size | Suits | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 4ft x 4ft | One guard, standing / short shift | Very tight with any furniture |
| 6ft x 4ft | One guard, seated, full shift | Most common choice |
| 8ft x 6ft | Guard + register desk + monitor | Comfortable for long shifts |
| 10ft x 8ft | Two guards, shift overlap, CCTV point | Small gatehouse |

2. Window placement is the whole point
A guard cabin exists so someone can watch a gate. That means the windows must face the approach, and the seated eye level must line up with the window — not above it or below it.
Tell the manufacturer which direction the gate is, and where the guard will sit. A sliding window on the gate side and a second window for cross-ventilation is the usual answer.
3. Heat and ventilation
A small cabin heats up faster than a large one — less air volume, same sun. An uninsulated 4×4 box in May is not somewhere a person can sit for twelve hours.
Specify insulated panel, a roof overhang or sun shade over the gate-side window, a fan point, and an exhaust or louvre for cross-ventilation. If the post is manned round the clock, budget for an AC provision.
4. Electricals — more than one point
- Light point with switch
- Fan point
- Two plug points — phone charger and one spare
- CCTV / monitor point if applicable
- Intercom or gate-control point if the guard operates the gate
- MCB / small DB inside the cabin, not outside where it gets wet

5. Door, lock and security of the cabin itself
The cabin holds a register, sometimes keys, sometimes a monitor. Specify a proper lock, and if the post is unmanned at night, a grill on the windows.
Also check the door opens outward if the cabin is small — an inward door costs you usable floor space.
6. Mounting and relocation
Will it sit on a concrete pad, on the ground, or be lifted onto a plinth? Will it move when the gate position changes? A cabin built with lifting points and a proper base channel survives relocation; one built as a static box does not.
On MIDC plots in Taloja, Bhiwandi and Panvel, gate positions change more often than people expect. Plan for it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most common security cabin size?
6ft x 4ft for a single seated guard. 8ft x 6ft once there is a desk, register and monitor inside.
Can a guard cabin have an AC?
Yes. Specify insulated panel and AC provision at order stage — an AC in an uninsulated small cabin struggles and costs a lot to run.
Can it be moved later?
Yes, if it is built for it — proper base channel and lifting points. Say so before fabrication.
Do you make cabins with an attached toilet?
Yes, for gatehouse and larger posts we build a small attached toilet block. It changes the plumbing plan, so raise it at quoting stage.
